Oracle Reports Builder is the report-building component of Oracle Reports, a powerful enterprise reporting tool that enables you to rapidly develop and deploy sophisticated Web and paper reports against any data source (including an Oracle database, JDBC, XML, and text files).

So my question is is that, Can we install reporting services 2016 if we have lower version of SQL installed like SQL 2008?
To kick off our series of posts this month we’re calling “New Feature Friday”, we’re pleased to announce the initial release of Power BI Report Builder, the latest companion application for Power BI that lets you author Paginated Reports. It is a free, standalone Windows Desktop application that can be downloaded from the Power BI site.
This application will act as the primary authoring experience for paginated reports in the Power BI service going forward. By creating a new authoring tool for paginated reports in Power BI, separate from SQL Server Reporting Services Report Builder, we can provide a familiar experience, but specifically optimize for publishing to the Power BI Service.
Power BI Report Builder enables you to:
- Use the Report Builder ribbon to quickly add items your reports, launch table, chart, and map wizards, and format your report data.
- Add data from built-in data providers.
- Create and use report parameters and other interactive features.
- Preview reports in HTML or print format.
- Export reports to file formats such as Microsoft Excel or PDF.
- Save your report locally
- In a future update, you’ll be able to both open and publish from/to the Power BI Service
Download the App
To download and install Power BI Report Builder, you can click on the COG icon in the title bar of Power BI site and select the Report Builder option.
Connect to Data Sources
We’ve restricted the list of available data sources in Power BI Report Builder to those we support in Power BI service now. We’re also include additional data sources that will be supported in the Power BI service by the end of April –
- Power BI Premium Datasets via XMLA connectivity (using the SQL Server Analysis Services connection option)
- Oracle (Preview)
- Teradata (Preview)

Create Reports
After connecting to your data and creating your datasets, the report creation experience works just as it does in the current authoring tools for SQL Server Reporting Services. We’ve taken steps to hide features that aren’t planned to be supported, or greyed out those we’ve not yet enabled (like subreports, for example), to help you make sure the reports you create will work in the Power BI service as you and your users expect them to.
File Format
For users unfamiliar with paginated reports, the file format used for these reports is the RDL extension. Unlike Power BI Desktop reports, no actual report data is stored in your saved report. Rather, it is the report definition that is saved in the file, which includes connection information, layout details, etc.

You can only load from your computer currently, but we will have an end to end publishing experience from Power BI in an upcoming release prior to GA.
Limitations
The focus of this initial release is around creating and editing new Paginated Reports built specifically for the Power BI service, so we don’t allow connecting to your existing SSRS instances from Power BI Report Builder to open or save reports. We understand that many users will be looking for an easy way to move their existing content to Power BI moving forward, and we’re evaluating options around building a meaningful migration experience for your existing content.
